EALR's and Objectives:
- Students will understand the type of art used in the book.
- Students will comprehend the story as a whole by able to be recalling characters and settings.
- Students will know and understand what a folktale is.
Reading
1.1 use word recognition and word meaning skills to read and comprehend text.
Writing
2.2 write for different purposes.
Art
4.1 Use art skills and knowledge in other subject areas.
Materials:
- Construction paper,
- Pencils, Colored markers, crayons,
- Scissors,
- Glue,
- Book "The Wave of the Sea-Wolf" by David Wisniewski
Procedure:
- Discuss "Wave of the Sea-Wolf" and it's cover. What is a folktale? (look it up in the dictionary).
- Read Book
- Discuss the art element of the book which is the cut-out style of artwork. How did you think how the artist did that?
- Students will choose a character and a setting out of the book and create a picture using this cut-out style we discussed and write a sentence about that character.
- Show and tell.
Assessment:
- Students will then write two sentences either describing the character or the seen in the book they are using.
- Students will share their work with others.
