1. Objectives
A. Learnable Pieces
B. Teacher Objective:
2. Instant Activity:
Statues and Dribblers - Have some of the class stand in general space with their feet apart (vary the width from student to student), these are statures. Other half the class are dribblers. They are to dribble the ball around and try to make as many passes as they can through the statues without losing control of the ball. Switch statues and dribblers.
3. Set Induction (unit):
Today we are going to use our walking tools. Can anybody tell me what our walking tools are? Can we use them anything else besides walking?
We will be kicking the ball against the wall, but not just kicking it any old way. We will be learning how to kick the ball without breaking our toes.
4. Content Development:

Task | Cue | Challenge |
1. Stand behind a kicking ball and kick the ball really hard so it travels to the wall. | Contact the ball with your instep- your shoelaces - not your toes. | Practice until you can kick the ball three times in a row to the wall. |
2. Practice kicking with your left and right foot. | Can you kick the ball hard enough with each foot to hit the wall? | Practice until you can kick the ball with each foot against the wall 6 times in a row. |
3. Practice kicking the ball, making it go along the ground. | To get the ball to travel at a low level, contact the ball directly behind its center. | Practice until you can kick the ball along the ground in a straight line against the wall three times. |
4. Practice kicking the ball, making it go into the air hitting the wall. | To get the ball to travel upward through the air, contact the ball below its center. | Practice until you can kick the ball in the air against the wall three times. |
5. Kick the ball toward the geometric target on the wall, trying to hit it. | Try the different targets (different shapes) and find your favorite target for accuracy. | Choose your favorite target stand eight feet away from the target and kick. When you can hit the target two times in a row, take a giant step backward and try from that distance. |

Task | Cue | Challenge |
1. Kick the ball hard so it hits the wall with enough force to rebound back to you, using the step-hop approach. | Step-hop on your non-kicking leg to complete a running approach! | Practice it until you can do it five times in a row. |
2. Kick the ball so it hits the wall below this tapeline. | Remember, contact the ball directly behind center so it will travel at a low level. | Kick the ball three times in a row under tape on wall. |
3. Practice your kicking with the step-hop, sending the ball through the air so it contacts the wall above the tapeline. | Remember contact the ball below center for travel upward through the air. | Practice kicking through the air until you can successfully complete the aerial kick five times about the tapeline. |
4. Practice kicking with your left and right foot, contacting the wall below the tape line on the wall. | Remember contact the ball with your instep - your shoelaces - not your toes! | Practice it until you can hit the wall three times in a row below the tapeline. |
5. Each child with ball in a large area. On my signal, begin traveling through general space. When you hear the signal, stop and place one foot on top of the ball. | Gently tap the ball so that it stays within three to four feet of you at all times. Use the inside or outside of your foot - left and right to tap the ball. Heads up try to avoid collision! | Try to travel and tap with alternate feet and without letting the ball get away from you or colliding with another person. |

Task | Cue | Challenge |
1. Each child with ball in a large area. On my signal, begin traveling with ball, but this time practice changing directions with the ball when I signal. | Change direction of the ball by tapping it to the right or left with the inside or outside of your foot. | Increase your speed as you get out into open spaces. |
2. Boundaries and many random goals set up with cones (6 ft apart) in a large area. Travel at your own speed, avoiding people. On my signal, travel to an open space and kick for a goal. | Remember, gentle tap for dribble, kick hard for goal. Heads up to avoid collision! | Make three goals in a row. |
3. Children partner up (partners with similar abilities). One partner will dribble ball trying to keep his partner trying to keep their partner from getting ball. | No touching; gain possession, don't kick the ball away; when you obtain the ball, your partner becomes the defensive person. | Partners may design their own one-on-one game and decide the rules, scoring, and boundaries. |
4. Partners pass ball, positioned close together. | Kick the ball with inside or outside of your foot, not with your toes. Kick the ball with the right amount of force to send it to your partner. Receiver will stop the ball by placing their foot on top, slightly behind the ball. | Every other time you pass the ball to your partner, take a step back. How many consecutive passes can you make in a row? |
5. Poison! Every time you pass the ball to your partner, the ground you are standing on is poison! You must run to new ground to receive your next pass. | Use the inside/outside of your feet to send the ball to your partner. Kick the ball to the open space ahead of your partner (if passing on the run). | Seven consecutive passes between partners and of course don't get poisoned! |
5. Closure (unit):
6. Equipment: (for class of 30 students).
30 cones (different sizes) | 4 large paper geometric shapes | 30 Soccer Balls |
15 playground balls | 15 foam soccer balls | 10 hoops |
