Mechanics Bibliography Lesson 1-Kicking Assessment

Punting
  1. Students will watch the ball until it contacts their foot.
  2. Students will drop the ball for the punt; not tossing it upward.
  3. Students will extend their foot to contact the ball with their shoelaces, not your toes.
  4. Students will take a few running steps; then punt without stopping their forward momentum.
  5. Students will make their last step before contact a step-hop on their nonkicking leg, so that they'll be airborne for the punt.

Kicking
  1. Students will kick the ball with their instep -your shoelaces-not your shoes
  2. Students will plant their non-kicking foot next (not behind, not in front) to the ball when kicking.
  3. Students will kick the ball directly behind center to make the ball travel at a low level.
  4. Students will kick the ball directly below center to make the ball travel upward through the air.
  5. Students will use their nonkicking leg to complete the running approach (Step-hop approach).
  6. Students will gently tap the ball (using the inside and outside of their feet) so that it stays within three to four feet of them at all times.
  7. Students will trap the ball by placing their foot on top, slightly behind the ball.
