Pre-Reading Activities: Show the students the cover of the book and read the title to them. Ask the children about why they think they have nightmares or dreams? Ask them if someone would like to share their favorite dreams or worst nightmare?

Post-Reading Activities: Ask the children at the end of the story how they can prevent themselves from having nightmares?

Social Studies (Clothing and Customs): Discuss traditional Japanese clothing (as shown with characters in the book) and customs.

Home EC (Nutrition): As a class research Japanese food, look up different recipes. Make rice balls with class.

Science (Brain): Where dreams come from in the brain and what goes on in brain while you are dreaming. Then have students draw their ideas on what they think happens when they dream.
